Learn about Google AdSense

By: Jon Hodges

Google AdSense has become the most popular online contextual advertising program. They automatically deliver text or image ads that are precisely targeted to your site. Your ads are so well-matched, in fact, that your readers will actually find them useful. AdSense rewards you for creating sites that are rich in high-quality, focused content and there is really only one thing you need remember, and that's to create your page in this order:

1. Content - Content is king so try to make it fun and informative. Write it as if talking to a friend because, after all, a stranger is a friend you just haven't met.
2. Design - You want an eye catching design. Spend time researching your color scheme as there is a theory, that certain colors have subconscious effects on us all.
3. Google - Last, but in no way least, incorporate your ads into your site. Experiment with different colors and layouts to see what feels right for you.

AdSense for content automatically crawls your pages and delivers ads that are relevant to your audience. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page. Skyscrapers and vertical banners do well when placed next to the content in the main body but my personal favourite is to place ads in between paragraphs, making them seem like a part of the article.

How much you earn depends on a number of factors including how much an advertiser bids on your site -- you'll receive a portion of what the advertiser pays. Payment can be by paper check or direct bank transfer. You are paid monthly, but only after you exceed $100. However, Google will pay all earned revenue, even if smaller then $100, when the AdSense account is closed.

Google AdSense is a free and easy way for website and blog publishers, of all sizes, to display relevant ads on their websites and earn money. Free charts generated with your Google AdSense Reports include: total earnings, click thru-rate, earnings per click and number of clicks, earnings per impression, number of page impressions, earnings by day of week and earnings by day of month.

To sign up for an account and start earning from your website or blog go to - https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/

All accounts are free to join and use. You usually have to wait about 24 hours before you get a reply from Google and you'll also need to submit a web address that your ads will be placed on.
